The ongoing #MeToo movement has clearly divided the industry. While some have been openly supporting the survivors, some have maintained their distance from the entire issue. Some others feel that the entire campaign is being misused by one gender against the other.
Kannada film director Guruprasad recently came into the scanner after actor Sangeetha Bhat’s #MeToo story. Speaking about the allegations, the filmmaker reportedly said that he did not cross the line while directing Sangeetha. He revealed that he shot a bare back scene with her. However, he had his wife and daughter on the set at that time.
He also reportedly alleged that the actors who are making such allegation now want to prove their chastity to their husband and in-laws. He also told Deccan Herald that although he is aware of the allegations against him, the director says he chose to remain silent as he does not know how to reply to those allegations. According to Guruprasad, if men begin speaking out, women will have to commit suicide.
The filmmaker also opened about actress Sruthi Hariharan accusing Arjun Sarja of sexual misconduct. He reportedly stated that Sruthi Hariharan is making this allegation after two years. Within this period, she got married. And her husband is not from the film industry. Her father and mother-in-law must have concerns about her career life. He feels that now she may feel that if I make such a statement at this time, my husband and in-laws might think I am pure and innocent.
