R Shailaja, 28, allegedly committed suicide in her home in Hyderbabad on Wednesday. The police suspect the reason behind the suicide was dowry harassment. Shailaja worked at Deloitte. A report in Deccan Chronicle states that a case has been filed against her husband G Naveen Kumar. Relatives of the young woman allege she was murdered as there were injuries found on her arm and face. There were also blood stains on the floor. Since she was found hanging on a side ventilator, they allege it could not have been possible to commit suicide.

The police have taken Kumar, who works with TCS, and his parents’ into custody, adds the report. Kumar has claimed reportedly he was sleeping in the hall and that he found her body at 5 am on Wednesday morning. The neighbours informed the police that the couple was fighting on Tuesday night.

Shailaja’s father has now filed a complaint with the police stating that her husband and in-laws had been harassing her for the last one year. Her father said that they gave Rs 10 lakh dowry during the wedding and Rs 5 lakh later when Kumar’s family kept asking for more. The husband and in-laws were demanding more money from Shailaja’s father. Shailaja was earning well and giving the in-laws her salary, adds the report. The police are now waiting for the post-mortem results.
